Meet Mikayla Khramov

8.17.23

Mikayla, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

The most meaningful project that I have ever worked on has to be the Ray Bradbury Experience Museum. In 2016, I visited Ray Bradbury’s hometown, Waukegan, IL, for the first time. I had the chance to meet some amazing people who were trying to start a museum for Ray Bradbury, as he still has no hometown museum. The following year, I was invited to join the team in an effort to build that museum. Over the next 6 years, I was a volunteer committee member and creative director, working towards the goal of establishing an interactive experience bringing Ray Bradbury’s imagination to life.

Theone is a recording and performing artist from Santa Monica, CA. She has opened for artists including Vance Joy, Jesse McCartney, The AJR Brothers, Billy Bob Thornton, Dale Watson, and Junior Brown. She is a multi-instrumentalist and utility player. Her instruments include guitar, harp, bass, drums, accordion, and balalaika. Theone is also a member of the LA based sister band, The Nesting Dolls.

"Theone's music takes it back to the reason we listen to music. Pure love and passion come through the speakers in this exciting new artist's first record."

Hi Mikayla, how has your work-life balance changed over time?

This Hello Roses project has been a breath of fresh air for me. I work full time and gig every weekend, so the thought of recording, releasing, and promoting a new musical project felt overwhelming at first. Now, I am grateful I took that first step at following my gut feeling, and my gut was telling me to just put it out there.

Life & Work with Mikayla Theone Khramov

11.16.22

Hi Mikayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.

Music was always my first love. I remember watching my dad perform on the 3rd street promenade when I was growing up in Santa Monica. His band, Limpopo, was a Russian-Ukrainian Folk n’ Roll band that got a lot of attention in the 90s. The members included my dad, balalaika, and trombone player – Igor Khramov, singer and guitarist, Igor Yuzov, accordion-player, Yuri Fedorko, and bassist, Oleg Bernov. My dad influenced my love of music a lot, encouraging me to learn new instruments and read and write music. He even gave me his trombone so I could join my junior high school band. I went on to start a few musical projects, including one with my sister, Marlena Khramov, called the Nesting Dolls. My mom, Janelle Frese, is a drummer and will play with us sometimes too! It all runs in the family.
